A group of nine civil society organisations asked Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and the Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic to postpone any decision-making process not directly related to the population health and safety, the FoNet news agency reported on Tuesday.

The NGOs says that a wise, consistent and constant implementation of the transparency principle and good governance is essential in those challenging times to avoid the destruction of the democratic society foundations – human rights, the rule of law and the democratic decision-making process.

In their letter to the state top leaders, the organisations said they understood that the authorities worked in dire conditions during the coronavirus epidemic, but called on them to postpone the decisions that could not be brought transparently and with the public participation.

Vucic said the general, provincial and local elections would be held on June 21, a month and a half after the state of emergency was to be lifted.
