Serbia’s and NBA famous basketball player’s Foundation donates $550,000

“As from day one of the state of emergency, we started collecting humanitarian aid through the network of our aides and volunteers on the ground,” Ana Kosel, the Foundation Director said.

The Foundation has helped 17 civil society organisations, informal groups and media which promote solidarity and the spirit of togetherness in the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Over 17,000 Dollars (1.87 million Dinars) were secured with the help of the Balkan Trust for Democracy and the Kingdom of Norway embassy which added nearly 220,000 Dollars (23.5 million Dinars) for 10,000 packages with staples and hygiene products.

The Foundation said it would deliver the packages supposed to help some 50,000 people, in over ten towns in Serbia by the end of June.

Divac's fellow NBA players from Serbia, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Nemanja Bjelica, joined the Foundation and jointly donated ventilators, protective masks and other medical supplies worth nearly $188,000 (20.1 million Dinars).

Besides, the Foundation, supported by the Open Society Foundation, secured aid to the migrants in three centres in Serbia worth almost 110,000, consisting of hygiene products for four months and packages for children, as well as material for sewing face masks.

Vlade Divac, a professional basketball executive and former player, the vice president of basketball operations and general manager of the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association, spent most of his playing career in the NBA and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.

He and his wife are known for humanitarian work.
