European Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimovic said on Friday that Serbia expects to open at least some of the five chapters its is ready to open in its pre-accession negotiations with the Euoprean Union, a ministry press release said.
“The important this is for EU member states to recognize the progress achieved in chapters 23 and 24 which has been presented in the non-paper on Serbia’s progress in the field of rule of law which recognized progress and some lateness in a fairly balanced manner,” she is quoted as telling Italian Ambassador Carlo Lo Cascio.
Joksimovic said that Italy will continue providing support for Serbia to join in EU activities which will define the future of the continent such as the Economic Investment Plan for the Western Balkans and the Green Agenda.
Lo Cascio confirmed that Italy will continue actively supporting Serbia’s accession to the EU, including the consistent implementation of the key elements and principles of a credible policy of EU expansion, the press release said.
It added that the minister and the ambassador also discussed Serbian government activities to improve election conditions with both sides saying they expect the coming elections to be held in a democratic atmosphere.
