Zoran Radovanovic, an epidemiologist, told N1 on Thursday it was worrying that the number of new coronavirus cases in Serbia had not dropped in the last six weeks with dozens of newly infected patients registered daily.
On Wednesday, 96 new coronavirus cases were reported, just days ahead of the general elections on June 21.
Radovanovic said that Serbia was not among the countries which successfully fought the epidemic and that it had the most tolerant stand towards it.
Regarding the next Sunday’s vote, he said that it was a risk as were campaign gatherings.
During the elections, Radovanovic said, the danger was inside and outside the polling stations and that people should wear face masks and gloves and that disinfection material should be secured to reduce the risk of getting infected.
He added that data on the situation with the epidemic, “must be public and accurate. People should know what the situation is where they live and then act accordingly.”
