
A spokesman for the Republic Election Commission said that the turnout almost doubled in the third hour of the vote in the Serbian parliamentary and local elections.
RIK spokesman Miladin Kovacevic said that the turnout by 10:00 am was 9,3 percent. “Viewed by city, the turnout in Novi Sad was 9.15 percent, in Nis 7.51 and in Kragujevac 7.92 percent,” he said.
Earlier, three independent election watchdog organizations reported a turnout of just over five percent by 9:00 pm. The Center for Election Monitoring (CPI) reported that 5.3 percent of the electorate voted while CeSID and IPSOS Strategic Marketing reporting a turnout of 5.2 percent and the CRTA NGO reporting a turnout of 5.4 percent. The 8,385 polling stations opened at 7:00 am will close at 8:00 pm. The RIK said on Friday that a total of 6,584,376 adult citizens of Serbia have the right to vote and will choose one of the 21 lists of candidates on the ballot. The elections will be monitored by more than 3,400 local and international observers, including and OSCE/ODIHR mission.
