Heavy rain caused floods in many places in Serbia in the last few days, forcing local authorities to declare an emergency situation in 12 towns and municipalities, media reported on Tuesday.
Previously, the emergency situation was declared in eight towns and municipalities, but Serbia's Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said later on Tuesday that the number of endangered places had risen and the same measure was needed in 12 local communities.
After the meeting of the Crisis Team, Brnabic said that in the last 48 hours the rain was extreme and that between 150 and 210 litres fell on a square meter.
Dozens of households were evacuated and many more houses were endangered in central, southwestern and western Serbia.
Swollen rivers destroyed bridges and rafts in several places, while floods stopped traffic in some towns.

Emergency services evacuated 48 people and saved one person.
According to the weather forecast, heavy rain is expected to last for the next 12 hours.
The last massive floods hit Serbia in 2014.
In 2005, the floods severely hit the northern province of Vojvodina, but despite new threats, local authorities sais no such events were expected despite the high river's level.
