The US ambassador to Kosovo Philip Kosnett said the June 27 meeting at the White House between Serbia's and Kosovo's presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci respectively was 'very important' for the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on the normalisation of relations, and that the resumed negotiations would end in mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia, the Beta news agency reported on Tuesday.
He added Washington did not 'follow' the idea on territory swap,
"We have said many times the US doesn't follow the idea on the exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia and I have reiterated that, Kosnett told TV Klan Kosovo, adding the negotiations would end in mutual recognition between Belgrade and Pristina.
Belgrade strongly opposes that without getting something more than the European Union membership in return.
Kosnett added he expected numerous speculations ahead and after the White House meeting.
"As my colleague (White House special envoy to the dialogue Richard) Grenell has said we expect t the meeting to focus on the economic cooperation between Kosovo and Serbia what will be beneficial to the whole region. We have often said that the dialogue should focus on issues useful for ordinary people in Kosovo in Serbia," Kosnett said.
"Our goal is to see a comprehensive agreement. To create an environment for better economic and political relations that will help people in both countries to build a better future, Kosnett said.
He added that "although everyone is interested in what will happen on Saturday, I will refrain from any speculation about the details of the meeting," Kosnett said.
