Lajčák: Belgrade-Pristina talks in July, EU insists on implementation of deals

The European Union’s special envoy for Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on the normalisation of relations Miroslav Lajčák said in Belgrade on Tuesday he expected the talks to resume in July and added the bloc would insist on the implementation of all agreed upon, the FoNet news agency reported.

In his meeting with Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, during the second-day visit to the country, the Slovakian diplomat said the focus of the negotiations would be on reaching a final and comprehensive agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.

Lajčák tweeted the two discussed modalities for the next phase of the talks and the need for progress in reforms in Serbia.

He met with President Aleksandar Vucic on Monday.

He said that Brussels readiness to mediate between the two capitals was a significant sign of the importance of the Western Balkans and that its stability, prosperity and the European perspective were high on the EU agenda.

Brnabic said Belgrade was always committed to dialogue and ready to resume it with Pristina under the EU auspices.

She added that Serbia’s European orientation would be a priority for a new government which would be formed after the June 21 general elections in the country.

Lajčák visited Pristina before coming to Belgrade in an attempt to get both sides to go back to the negotiating table.
