Vucic discussed economy with IMF delegation chief

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic discussed the country’s economic growth with the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation Jan Kees Martijn, a press release from the presidents cabinet said.

The President and members of the IMF delegation agreed during the video conference that the predictions of the Serbian government for this year are somewhat more optimistic that the assessments of the IMF.  

“The justification of the optimistic predictions is shown by the fact that Serbia is one of the few countries for which the IMF has not corrected its initial growth projection from March this year,” the press release said.  

“This will contribute to a stable economic situation and safe business environment in Serbia in the coming period despite the negative consequences of the panemic,” Vucic is quoted as saying. He said that he expects the controlled rise in salaries and pensions to continue in 2021.  

Vucic and Martejn also discussed the current arrangement with the IMF as part of the six month review of the implementation of the program, the press release said and quoted Martejn as praising the engagement of Vucic and the government and their responsible economic policy and successful management of the crisis in all areas from health care to the economy.
