Kosovo's MPs in heated debate about talks with Belgrade

The members of Kosovo's Parliament argued for eight hours about the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on the normalisation of relations with a heated exchange between the ruling and opposition parties, the Beta news agency reported on Friday.

The opposition accused Prime Minister Avdulah Hoti of non-transparency regarding the continuation of the dialogue and of violating the Constitution by appointing Skender Hiseni as Pristina’s coordinator in the negotiations.

Hoti denied accusations and reiterated that a final deal with Belgrade would be in line with Kosovo’s Constitution and end in mutual recognition.

He informed MPs about meetings with Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic mediated by the French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel and about sessions in Brussels.

Hoti said the dialogue had no alternative and that he counted on help from „Kosovo’s friends in achieving the goal in the process which would not be easy.“

„We have a breakthrough in political and diplomatic isolation of Kosovo, we avoid a dead-end and take responsibility for the dialogue,“ Hoti added.
