UNS: Almost 2,000 charges against journalists and media in Serbia

The Belgrade Higher Court told the Association of Serbia's Journalists (UNS) on Monday that 1,198 charges were filed against journalists and media in the country in 2018 and 2019.

The Court said that in 2018, 629 people filed charges that included mental pain, violation of reputation and honour and rights to privacy, while a year later, there were 572 charges.

„In 2018, there were 505 rulings in cases of violation of reputation and honour, and 496 in 2019,“ the Court said. 

It added that in 2018, 199 cases were resolved by withdrawing the charges, 85 were rejected, while 73 were resolved in other ways.

The Appellant Court annulled 41 Higher Court’s rulings and reversed 18, the Court said i its statement to UNS.
