Islamic Community reopens mosques in Serbia

The Islamic Community of Serbia said that mosques would be open to the faithful as of Wednesday, August 4 but warned that anyone showing symptoms of coronavirus infection would not be allowed in.

A statement said that the decision was taken following reports that the situation in Serbia was improving and that the number of people hospitalized had dropped. People with fever, cough or other health issues will not be allowed into mosques, it said and added that face masques must be worn and the faithful must avoid handshakes and keep their distance from each other. Imams have been instructed to keep services as short as possible.

The elders of the Islamic Community of Serbia also banned children from mosques in line with recommendations to avoid mass religious gatherings.
