Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic denied on Monday that relations between Belgrade and Moscow had deteriorated, adding that the Facebook post by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was simply impolite.

Zakharova’s post compared a photo of Vucic sitting in front of US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House with a scene from the film Basic Instict.

“They said that we are Russian servants and working with the Russians not the Europeans and now they’re saying that we are in conflict with the Russians. There is no conflict apart from an impolite post by the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman. I am proud of the reaction of the free and independent Serbian state which is protecting its interests and not asking anyone what to do,” Vucic told the pro-regime TV Pink in Brussels.

He said that Serbia and Russia have what he called normal relations.
