Pope names new bishop of Subotica Diocese

Pope Francis named Monsignor Slavko Vecerin the new Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Subotica in the north of Serbia’s Vojvodina province, the Vatican said in its daily bulletin on Tuesday.

Monsignor Vecerin was appointed from the ranks of the diocese clergy and has served in churches is several places in Vojvodina, including his home town of Subotica. He comes to the post following the resignation of Bishop János Pénzes. Vecerin served as vicar to the Bishop since 2005.
Bishop Pensez told a news conference in at the seat of the diocese that he is glad to see Vecerin appointed to succeed him, saying that he sees the appointment as praise for what he did with the support of the new bishop.
Bishop Vecerin voiced thanks to the Pope for giving him what he said were the very responsible duties of the bishop of Subotica.
