Transparency Serbia: Party control main corruption generator

Nemanja Nenadic, Transparency Serbia Programme Director, has said on Wednesday that the economy and people in general highly depend on the public sector, which is entirely under party's control that makes it the main generator of the corruption in the country.

He adds that even the enlargement of the private sector depends on political support to a great extent.

„The main generator of corruption is the party’s control over the public sector, which far suppress the importance of political decisions made by the parliament and government. Key decisions in large part of the public sector are signed by easily replaceable acting managers who owe the position to politically powerful people instead of being accountable to the citizens,“ Nenadic told the Independent Union website.

He said the corruption could not be either reduced or suppressed while there was a low level of the rule of law, i.e., an open violation of regulations, while the prosecution did not investigate the cases of corruption and while the independent watchdog organisations were not supported enough.
