Indian, Japanese and Serb start peace walk from Gandhi's Belgrade monument

Nitin Sonavane, an activist from India, Ikeda Masato a Buddhist monk from Japan and Ivan Nikitovic from Serbia started a peace walk from Mahatma Gandhi's monument in Belgrade on Monday on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of a great India's lawyer and anti-colonialism and human rights advocate.

According to the Indian embassy in Belgrade, Sonavane walks around the world to celebrate the anniversary and spread Gandhi's philosophy and messages of peace and non-violence.

Sonavone started his endeavour by bike in November 2016 and visited 39 countries in South-East Asia, North and South Americas, Africa and Europe.

The Indian ambassador to Serbia Subrata Bhattacharjee laid flowers at Gandhi's monument and spoke about his life and philosophy.

Ahead of the anniversary, the embassy will organise a lecture by Shabana Radakrisnan, a well-known expert on Gandhi's philosophy.
