Tanja Fajon, an MEP and the chair of the Europan Parliament (EP) Delegation to the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee, said on Tuesday that the renewal of the dialogue between political parties in the country secured a room for improvement in the functioning of democracy, human rights and media freedom.

"Those are pre-conditions for Serbia's successful integration into the EU," Fajon told the Belgrade independent Danas daily, commenting the recent joint call by the Euro parliamentarians and several Serbia's opposition parties for the new inter-party dialogue facilitated by the EP.

Commenting on the failures of the previous talks on the upgrading of elections' conditions in Serbia, Fajon said the negotiations started too late, that some progress had been made, but that "now, the focus should be on the next elections."

She added Serbia should form a government as soon as possible, after the June 21 vote.

"Every day without a government is lost for people. I home and expect a new government to take its obligations as soon as possible," Fajon said.
