Serbia's doctor: Three times more deaths than reported from March to June

Speaking to NewsMax Adria Daily Review TV programme on Tuesday, Serbia's epidemiologist and a member of the state anti-coronavirus Crisis Team, Predrag Kon, said his research showed three times more deaths from March to June than the system collected, officially reported or sent in writing.

He also said there was a problem in the information system.
However, he added: "Now I can say that the data are very accurate."
The Belgrade NIN weekly reported that in July when Serbia was facing a new coronavirus wave, at least one hundred thousand fewer tests were performed than official data showed.
"It must be understood - there is something that is applied during the event itself. We are using an information system for the first time. That system was not precise enough at one point. It was clear that there was a difference between what we identified as cases in Belgrade, deaths in particular. The data for June are still to arrive. I processed the data until June. By June, in short, there were three times more deaths than what has been reported in writing. It happens all the time ..." Kon said.
He also said the information system that was developed enabled the epidemiologists to work, adding that initially there were no COVID clinics and that they could not collect data - mainly because that data did not arrive. "Reports of infectious diseases didn't arrive at all. "
Kon said that "the total mortality is monitored yearly, and the comparison with an average before 2020 shows 345 more deaths this year than during the observed period."
Earlier, the Balkan Independent Reporting Network (BIRN) published a report that was not made public and which showed more deaths from COVID-19 than officially confirmed.
