The Klima101 site said that extreme weather conditions and ensuing natural disasters have inflicted more than 7.5 billion Euro in damages over the past 20 years.

The site, which deals with climate change, said that more than 70 percent of those losses or more than 5 billion Euro were caused by drought and high temperatures.

It said that the 2014 floods alone caused another 1.35 billion Euro in damages. Klima101 warned that climate changes could cause a drop in Serbia’s GDP of up to 14.6 billion Euro by 2040 with a minimal change in median temperatures of 1 °C and much more if the temperature changes are higher.

According to the site, forest fires during droughts have caused huge damages over the past 20 years in terms of trees destroyed and losses to farmers while flooding has caused material damages and loss of life with the 2014 floods claiming 51 lives. It said that 84 people lost their lives due to extreme weather since the year 2000 as well as the injury of another 745.
