Parliament elects Ivica Dacic to the post of Speaker

Ivica Dacic, leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and former cabinet minister, was elected Parliament Speaker on Thursday at the proposal of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

Dacic won the votes of 225 of the total of 250 MPs at the second session of the first sitting of this parliament which was elected at the June 21 elections. The first session was held on August 3.  

Earlier on Thursday, Dacic handed over as Foreign Minister to Prime Minister designate Ana Brnabic who will hold that post until a new foreign minister is named.
