Some media earlier reported the overhaul and upgrade of the six MiG-29 fighters, whose delivery was agreed in 2016, would cost 185 million Euro. Their value is said to be 230 million Euro.
The Ministry added on Tuesday that after the modernisation, MIG-29 be raised to the level of '4+', "making the sky over Serbia even better guarded and safer".
Almost two years ago, Russia delivered to Serbia sixth MiG-29, a twin-engine jet fighter aircraft, which NATO refers to as Fulcrum, as a part of Moscow's military-technical cooperation with Belgrade, the Sputnik website said then.
Before that, the first jet was sent to Serbia in October 2017. After the customs procedure, it flew back to Russia for an overhaul in the 121st Avioremont Institute, and then returned to Belgrade's Batajnica airbase.
That MiG-29, made initially to combat any enemy jet, was constructed in 1989 in the 9-13 version which was a bit more advanced compared to the old ones the former Yugoslav Air-force had received in 1987 and 1988.
