A member of the Serbian government’s pandemic Crisis Staff warned on Wednesday that the coronavirus situation in the country is very bad a day after more than 1,000 new infections were reported.

Dr Zoran Gojkovic said that the country can expect to see the number of new cases rise exponentially. “Luckily, the seasonal flu is not here yet… but there are new respiratory infections and the health care system will have a hard time coping,” he told the state TV (RTS).

Gojkovic, the Vojvodina provincial Health Care Secretary, said the country’s health care capacities are not filling up as fast as they had earlier but that the latest figures give rise to concern.
