Trust in media in Serbia lowest in Europe

People in Serbia trust the media less than any other nation in Europe, bearly amounting to 20 percent of those who believe in what they read or see, Snjezana Milivojevic, a professor at the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences, said, presenting the results of the research "News in the digital environment."

She added that Serbia, according to other research, has a very critical audience regarding the media. „People are much more worried about the untruths told by party representatives and state officials, than about the lies they find on social networks or in the media,“ Milivojevic said.

„There are apparent generational differences in the approach and use of the media, she said, adding that about 20 percent of the online audience does not follow the traditional media at all,“ she added.

For those who rely on the Internet, the main sources of news are social networks, media websites and television.

Some 90 percent of Internet consumers use mobile phones as the primary device for accessing the news.

Milivojevic said the research was done in July, when the number of people who actively avoid the news increased to 50 percent, showing they head enough of information and dissatisfaction with the quality of the reports.
