The installation of New Year's lightening in Belgrade said to cost Euro 5,000 started on November 1, Goran Vesic, Deputy Mayor of Serbia's capital said on Thursday, adding the price is "small in comparison to the expected effect."

The works will end on December 10, according to Vesic.

He told the pro-government Pink TV the city’s authorities also prepared a series of outdoor New Year’s programmes, adding that the coronavirus epidemic would dictate how many people would be allowed to gather.

„I doubt there will be many people, but we’re preparing interesting programmes at different locations which will be broadcast on TVs and available online if people cannot celebrate in the streets,“ Vesic said.
