Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar said that Serbia would request more than the pre-ordered 1.8 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine being developed by the Pfizer company, adding that it was one of the first five countries to sing a contract with the US pharmaceuticals company Pfizer.

Loncar told the state TV (RTS) that Serbia will request added amounts of the vaccine along with the 1.8 million doses which President Aleksandar Vucic said have already been ordered. “So who was right to think that this vaccine would get permits in Europe and the US? The European Union wants 800 million doses today after they wanted some other vaccine earlier. I spoke to Pfizer today and asked them for added amounts because we were among the first to sign a contract with them,” Loncar said.

“All other efficient and safe vaccines are also welcome,” the minister said.

The minister said that 814 doctors and nurses have been infected with the coronavirus, including 47 who had to be hospitalized.
