Serbia's PM: If we listen to opposition, health system, economy will be wrecked

Ana Brnabic, Serbia's Prime Minister, said on Monday people in her country should be proud with the results "we achieved together," reiterating President Aleksandar Vucic's claim that Serbia was among "the best countries regarding health system and economy in comparison to other states.

She also said that "if we listened to the opposition both would have been destroyed."
Serbia's major opposition parties and movements boycotted the June 21 general elections.

They have no representatives in the Parliament and cannot take part in the decision-make process in the country.

They criticise the Government on social networks and improvised news conferences, mostly outside companies which they accuse of non-transparent businesses and corruption.

Speaking to the pro-regime Pink TV, Brnabic added she understood that people were tired with everything, "but we have to endure till the end, and the end will be when we have a vaccine" against the coronavirus.

Brnabic promised Serbia would be among the first (countries) which would get a vaccine and would not "skimp." She added Belgrade was negotiating with all producers to see whose vaccine was the best and the safest.

Prime Minister also said the current anti-epidemic measures and people's responsibility would lead to an improvement of the situation with coronavirus epidemic, but added: "The Government will not hesitate to opt for more restrictive measures to save both people's lives and the economy."

Back to March 16, when there were 57 patients infected with the new virus, the authorities introduced the state of emergency, including a curfew, closed the borders, schools and kindergartens.

On Sunday, the number of infected reached 3,482, and 20 people died over the last 24 hours.

However, the authoritiesonly limited the cafes, restaurants, night clubs and shops' working hours to 9 pm and promised stricter control of the implementation of the existing measures.
