Two-thirds of Serbia's citizens believe the politicians do not work in the interest of the people, but abuse power for personal interests and 90 percent believe President Aleksandar Vucic is the crucial decision-maker in the country, according to the latest public opinion poll, conducted by the Belgrade Center for Security Policy (BCBP) together with the Sprint Insight agency, presented on Wednesday.

Over half of them, 52 percent, said them said they would support military intervention in Kosovo if the Belgrade - Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations would fail.

The pollees think the institutions work in particular interests, instead of taking care of the public good. They say the institutions should deal independently with all problems related to the abuse of government power and corruption, BCBP has said.

The vast majority of the polled people, 90 percent of them, believe that Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic is a crucial decision-maker in the country, the Center added.

The previous findings also showed that politicians worked in their interest, as well as in the interest of foreign and local rich people, according to BCBP.

It added it could be concluded that "the main player in capturing the state is the President of the Republic."

The research has shown that more than 50 percent of the surveyed people believe the police do not protect them, but the interests of criminals, politicians and financially powerful individuals instead.

Such opinion reflects the perception of corruption in which the polled people see political parties, the judiciary and the police as the most corrupt state institutions.

More than 50 percent of the pollees also believe there is either no democracy in Serbia or the system has big problems.

They believe the Parliament has the least influence on the political decision-making process and less than local tycoons and foreign companies, as well as significant foreign powers, BCBP has said.

It added the public opinion poll also showed the great apathy of citizens, their unwillingness to participate in activist initiatives, with only 20 percent of respondents said were ready to be involved.
