Finance Minister Sinisa Mali told German Ambassador Thomas Schieb on Wednesday that the Serbian parliament will ratify three agreements on joint projects with German companies.
A Finance Ministry press release said that German companies will invest in Section 3 of the Trans-Balkan Corridor, an energy efficiency project for public buildings and renewable energy sources for central heating and a water supply and waste water treatment program in medium-sized municipalities across Serbia. It said that the projects would be financed from the 2021 state budget with the German Development Bank KfW.
The press release said that the minister and the ambassador agreed that the Serbian economy has to transform after the coronavirus pandemic to become sustainable and that investments in a green economy are important, adding that the three projects are part of that kind of economy.
Mali is quoted as saying that Serbia is absolutely ready to adapt to new circumstances not only by investing in a sustainable economy but also by investing in digitalization. Schieb is quoted as saying that none of the German companies that invested in Serbia has pulled out, adding that an increasing number of them is coming to Serbia and that the joint projects should help the country on its path to the European Union.
