Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said on Monday that he is sure that the Pope could visit Serbia at some time.
He told the pro-government Happy TV that Serbia has very good relations with the Vatican and that they share “some painful issues and episodes from the recent past”. “At a certain moment, I am sure that the conditions will be met by the state and the (Serbian Orthodox) Church for that visit to take place but what President (Aleksandar) Vucic stuck to, both as president and prime minister before that, was to consult with our Patriarch about decisions like that,” he said, adding that Vucic knows that the church is a mechanism different to the state.
Selakovic said that the Pope Francis has great respect for Patriarch Irinej which he claims to have witnessed when he visited the Vatican with Vucic last year.
