Pisonero to N1: EU condemns all attacks on journalists

In a comment on the insults on N1 and Nova S journalists by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) MPs, the European Commission spokesperson Ana Pisonero told N1 on Friday the European Union's view was clear – the bloc condemns any violence against media.

"We condemn any attack or threat against journalists. It's crucial for us that journalists are able to the job without any hindrance," Psisonero said answering N1's European correspondent Nikola Radisic's question to comment on the latest offensive speeches in Serbia's Parliamenttargeting the two TV channels reporters.

She also called on Serbia's Government to transparently and inclusively implement the Media Strategy it adopted.

Her colleague Eric Mamer said that the EC President Ursula von Der Layen and Serbia's Prime Minister Ana Brnabic talked earlier on Friday and that the media freedom was on the agenda.

"It's known that the freedom and pluralism of media are crucial aspects for us and that they are the part of the EU DNA," Pisonero said.
