"Lies about Vucic and his family are published daily, and you are then forced to prove that is not true. It's a vicious circle which is exhausting and which will create an impression that 'there is something,' what is the aim of those who spread them," Stefanovic, told the pro-regime Pink TV.

He added he was "shocked by the attempts of the criminalisation of Vucic's children and warned that the threats on life, which he described as 'hybrid threats,'" followed.

"The Army guards our President, the elite Cobra unit, supported by security services. They can meet every task and won't allow that anything happens to him or his family," Stefanovic, who also heads the Security Services Coordinating Body said.

He believed there was a problem with the respective institutions' reaction regarding the threats coming from the politicians.

"It looks as there is a fear within a part of the state institutions in charge of investigating and possibly punish… as they are afraid that someone could target them on Twitter," Stefanovic said and called on "everybody to do their job."
