Borko Stefanovic, a deputy leader of Serbia's opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) said on Wednesday he filed criminal charges against Defence Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic (no relations) for "negligence in the service's work under Article 361 of the Criminal Code," in his previous capacity of the Interior Minister.
The charges are filed against a group of unknown police officers as well, Stefanovic told reporters outside the Belgrade Third Basic Court.
According to Stefanovic, the then Interior Minister "falsely accused Zoran Radmilovic of writing fascist slogans and graffiti on the house of Dejan Bulatovic, also an SSP deputy leader, while speaking to the pro-government Pink TV.
"Minister Stefanovic then said it was proved that the same paint and the same brush used to write the slogans were found on Radmilovic's sweatshirt," Borko Stefanovic said.
He presented an expert's findings proving that "Minister Stefanovic lied."
"He (the minister) falsely accused him (Radmilovic). That led to the maltreatment of Radmilovic by a group of unknown police officers who tied him to a radiator, slapped him, threatened and offered money to falsely accuse Dejan Bulatović, Dragan Djilas (the had of the SSP) and the party of writing fascist slogans themselves."
That resulted in Radmilovic's 30-day detention without single evidence.
Radmilovic told reporters he did not feel well and that the arrest had an impact on his family. "They inflicted great damage to me."
