The UN Women's research showed that last year, 15,933 women were victims of domestic violence in Serbia, despite as said, the good legal and institutional framework for prevention of the crime.
It added, however, that more experts and better financing were needed for an adequate answer to the issue.
"The violence against women is a significant problem in our society, and it does not decrease, while the great number of cases are not reported, thus remaining invisible," the organisation's statement said.
It recommended to Serbia to improve the work of its institutions, constant training for experts, but also the education to change the attitude toward the issue, to uproot stereotypes and prejudices, prevent discriminatory behaviour, particularly regarding Roma women and women with disabilities.
