Stimac began his protest at Andricev Venac, in front of the seat of the General Secretariat of the President, demanding accountability for the collapse of a canopy on November 1 at the Novi Sad Railway Station and full access to the documentation related to the incident. Last week, his protest lasted 24 hours, but he decided to extend it to 48 hours this time.
„I wasn’t alone here for a single moment throughout the night. At noon, the first 24 hours of my protest will pass, and I will remain here until the same time tomorrow. My demands have not changed. Many people ask why I protest on Saturdays and Sundays, and I ask, well, how come the President says he works constantly, has no breaks, and must always be working? Since he works constantly – we are here constantly,“ Stimac told N1.
He added that he expects a response from Aleksandar Vucic.
„I think there should be discussions about some sort of transition because the current authorities in Serbia are criminal and corrupt. Due to all of this, we’ve lost 15 lives. The canopy collapsed, and the question is, what will fall next? We’ve had so many other incidents, but this is one of the biggest disasters that has struck us,“ Stimac stated.
He also mentioned that many fellow citizens joined him during the night in his protest in front of the Presidency.
„They were here with me all night. I thank everyone. Citizens, friends, and my parents came… Last time, around 300 to 400 people circulated during my protest here. We even had older people coming,“ Stimac said.
He believes elections are not the solution to the current situation in Serbia.
„I think what we need right now is a special prosecutor chosen by the people. I’m not a lawyer, but I think that’s what should be done. To review all contracts, all documentation… To investigate all these companies, to see which ministers are behind them…“ Stimac emphasized.
