Due to volcanic activity and the presence of volcanic dust, the Catania airport in Sicily is temporarily closed for takeoffs and landings. For this reason, Air Serbia is forced to postpone the Friday, July 5 flights between Belgrade and Catania, said Air Serbia is a press release.

According to the current information, flight JU438 from Belgrade to Catania, which was scheduled to take off at 11:55am, will be operated today at 8:25pm local time, it said.

Consequently, flight JU439 from Catania to Belgrade, scheduled to take off at 2:30pm, will be carried out at 11:00pm local time.

The temporary closure of the Catania airport affects the regularity of traffic and the loss of airport slots for all airlines, said the national air carrier. As a result, during the coming weekend, the capacity of Catania Airport for take-offs and landings may be reduced, which may cause delays in flight times, Air Serbia said.
