Air Serbia warned of flight disruptions because of a malfunction of the baggage scanning system at Belgrade Airport on Monday.

“Due to this morning’s (Monday, 17 July 2023) malfunction of the X-ray baggage inspection system at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport’s new terminal, used by Air Serbia, today there may be significant disruptions from the planned flight schedule of airlines departing from the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. The changes occurred during the morning wave, but are very likely to result in subsequent phase lags throughout the day and evening,” a press release said.

Air Serbia official Bosko Rupic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the problems with baggage scanners had been dealt with and added that air traffic would be normalized later in the day. He said that 18 flights were delayed.

It added that efforts are underway to deal with the problem and called travelers to come to the airport at least two and a half hours before scheduled departure.

Belgrade Airport has been experiencing problems for several weeks with flight delays. The problems caused Serbia’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister Goran Vesic to meet with airport managers to find ways to deal with the problems.
