The Albanian Post portal said on Monday that it had access to a non-paper which warned Belgrade and Pristina of serious consequences if they obstruct Western efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
The non-paper, which the portal claims was written by an unnamed Western diplomat involved in the Belgrade-Pristina reconciliation process, said the Kosovo authorities are free to withdraw from the 2013 Brussels agreement and not form the Community of Serb Municipalities but will have to “bear the consequences of the revoking of everything achieved to date (freedom of movement, the +383 international dialing code, the integration of the north, control of two border crossings with Serbia etc)”.
Albanian Post said that the non-paper is sharply-worded and shows clearly that both Belgrade and Pristina will loose if Western efforts to establish peace in the region face problems from Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
The non-paper warned that the European Union has no intention of standing by while Belgrade and Pristina implement their delay and blocking tactics. It added that the integration process could be stopped with the EU changing its stand with everything that brings unless Belgrade and Pristina prove to be constructive and sign an agreement.
According to the document, Kosovo can no longer aspire to enjoy absolute protection from the West while hesitating to embrace Western efforts to achieve lasting peace and that Serbia can’t enjoy the financial, economic and political benefits of existing agreements while undermining Western efforts.
