Aleksic: I understand citizens’ anger, but a revolution would mean violence

I understand the discontent and anger of people in Serbia, and I recognize that most citizens are looking to us for solutions and telling us – you are not capable of resolving this. While revolution is the only alternative, it would inevitably lead to conflicts, institutional takeovers, and violence, leader of the opposition People’s Movement of Serbia (NPS) Miroslav Aleksic told N1.
“I’m afraid that in a revolutionary scenario, we would see a repeat of 2020 when the regime brought mounted police onto the streets. I understand people’s desperate need to remove this regime, but they hold all the levers of power. Personally, I'm ready for revolution, for anything. I would fight with the police, but I cannot bear the thought of someone’s child getting hurt because of me. I don’t believe we can stage a coup in the 21st century,” said Aleksic.
The opposition makes mistakes, there is no doubt about that, he added.
“The opposition failed the test in June when some colleagues boycotted the elections, and since then we have had only technical cooperation. Our main problem is the current government, and we will work with everyone - opposition colleagues, activists, and citizens - because we all share the same goal: regime change,” Aleksic said.
