US Ambassador in Pristina Jeff Hovenier said on Thursday that Washington supports the transition of the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) into a professional force.
“The U.S fully supports KSF’s comprehensive transition into a multi-ethnic, professional, NATO-interoperable territorial defense force,” the KoSSev news portal reported the ambassador as saying after a meeting with Major General Daniel Lasica, Director for Strategy, Plans and Policy at the United States European Command (EUCOM).
Pleased to welcome Amb Byrnes and Maj Gen Lasica from @US_EUCOM for a visit to Kosovo. The U.S fully supports KSF’s comprehensive transition into a multi-ethnic, professional, NATO-interoperable territorial defense force. Proud of our continuous & excellent cooperation. pic.twitter.com/IVjCYQ17VE

KoSSev recalled that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said recently that the KSF was recruiting active personnel and reserves. The transformation of the KSF into an army began with the introduction of a law on the transformation in 2018. NATO does not formally support the transformation.
