Another railway station shut down in Belgrade

Another railway station has been shut down in the Serbian capital with all trains now leaving from the new Belgrade Centar station, a Serbian railways official told the state TV (RTS) on Friday.
The Topcider railway station was used mainly for freight trains and the transport of cars. Serbian Railways Infrastructure company official Nenad Stanisavljevic said that the same service for cars will be available towards Montenegro next summer from the Zemun railway station. He added that the required infrastructure in Zemun will be completed by next summer. According to Stanisavljevic, the road running past Topcider station will now be widened.
He said that the closure of Topcider station means that all rail traffic to and from Belgrade will be from the new station. He said that Topcider was used as a transitional solution when the city’s old Main Railway Station was shut down. That station which was built in the 19th century stands next to the Belgrade Waterfront project buildings and has been turned into a museum with the square in front of it now home to a statue of Serbian medieval ruler Stefan Nemanja.
