Anti-Rio Tinto banners on Novi Sad monuments

Social media posts showed the banners (white letters on red backgrounds) on 17 monuments to scientists, politicians, poets and other prominent Novi Sad residents.

The Bravo Novi Sad civil society group posted photographs of the banners saying that monuments in Novi Sad are sending the message that Rio Tinto Will Not Dig. “Are the monuments to a glorious past in your cities warning that we have to fight for the future,” an Instagram post said.

The messages included: I want Serbia without Rio Tinto, Love for the motherland can’t die, Don’t moan fight, In the name of the people. All of them end with the words Rio Tinto Won’t Dig.
