The Croatian border authorities destroyed a shipment of apple juice from Serbia which was found to contain Patulin.
A notice on the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) said that a shipment of apple juice from Serbia had been seized at the border and was destroyed.
The apple juice was classed as a potentially serious health risk.
The microtoxin Patulin produces mold. Under European Union regulations, Patulin cannot be present in foods. It is most often found in juice from freshly pressed apples. It can produce symptoms of acute poisoning.
