Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday that on Monday - the day of former Bosnian Serb Army commander Ratko Mladic’s funeral in Belgrade - he will be hosting the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, for a meeting scheduled months ago.

Mladic was convicted in The Hague of genocide and other war crimes.

“I have an official visit from the President of Uzbekistan all day Monday and Tuesday, which was scheduled four months ago,” Vucic told reporters during a visit to the town of Palic, when asked if he would attend the funeral.

He added that he had spoken with the Mladic family and that it was their choice how to organize the funeral.

“As for whether I have done everything necessary and possible for this to proceed in a dignified, serious, and responsible manner regarding the state’s position - that is exactly what I have done. That is all I can tell you,” Vucic said.
