The agriculture attache at the Austrian embassy to Serbia, Christian Brawenz, met on Wednesday the activists in the northern town of Temerin who complained about illegal business and the unbearable stench from an Austrian company-owned farm housing 36,000 pigs.

The farm is currently leased by ''Temerin agrar,'' a subsidiary of ''Mitros Fleischwaren,'' which the Austrian company Gierlinger Holding GmbH bought in 2014.

The Center for Investigative Journalism (CINS) has previously reported that the majority owner of the land on which the farm is located is Ljubinko Gobeljic, who CINS  has described as a businessman close to President Aleksandar Vucic.

It has been reported that the farm is located within a construction area not far from the urban part, which violates the current municipality's regulations and lacks an appropriate work permit, obligatory for all plants that can negatively impact people's health and the environment.

Brawenz promised locals, who had previously sent petitions and sued ''Temerin Agrar,'' demanding the farm be dislocated, announcing protests outside the Austrian embassy, that he would talk to representatives of the Austrian company to resolve problems with smell and ammonia evaporation.

The farm is currently leased by ''Temerin Agrar,'' a subsidiary of ''Mitros Fleischwaren,'' which the Austrian company Gierlinger Holding GmbH bought in 2014.
