“Serbia’s Crisis Staff allowed mass gatherings of 15,000 people, which was extremely unreasonable. A ban on gatherings is now announced, but it is clear that the sudden 'awakening' of the Crisis Staff will be dictated by the authorities' fear of upcoming environmental protests," a member of the Executive Board of the United Against Covid, Dr Andjela Gavrilovic told N1 portal on Saturday. N1’s interlocutor believes that the health authorities, at least due to their self-esteem, had to insist on respecting the existing measures.

„Only then come stricter measures such as reducing the number of people in a group from 500 to, say, 150, filling the stadium to one third instead of one-half capacity, limiting the working hours of nightclubs and the like, if necessary,“ Gavrilovic underlined.

He added that „the fifth epidemic wave could not be completely prevented, but the number of sick and dead had to be much smaller than it will be.“

„The solution is not to falsify the numbers, but to make a fair effort to make them really smaller,“ our interlocutor emphasizes.

According to her, the position of the United Against Covid is that the empty phrase of the government, which says that we must learn to live with the virus, does not mean that we should ignore the virus.

She believes that the government nurtures the principle of non-resentment.

Gavrilovic also added that there is an exponential growth in the number of infected people so that there are currently over 3,500 infected on a daily basis.

Other N1’s interlocutors, Dobrica Veselinovic from the movement Let’s not strangle Belgrade and activist of the movement Let’s Defend the Rivers of Stara Planina Aleksandar Cuta-Jovanovic said that „the ecological uprising is an invitation not to turn our heads away“ and that „the biggest poisoning is not Smederevo and Bor, but the political leadership that run this country. „
