Batut Institute: 849 cases of whooping cough in Serbia since beginning of year

A total of 849 cases of whooping cough have been registered in Serbia since the beginning of 2024, said the Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut Public Health Institute.

Two unvaccinated children aged two and a half months and three months died, said the Institute.

The majority of the cases were reported among people over 20 and children aged 10 to 14, while the incidence rate was the highest in children under 12 months of age and in children between the ages of 10 and 14.

Out of the total number of reported cases 66 or 7.8 percent were hospitalized, and the largest number of hospitalized patients were in the age group younger than 12 months - 45 patients, said Batut.
