The museum houses some 200 pre- and post-WW 2 aircraft and other aviation exhibits some of which are the only remaining aircraft such as the Fiat G50 as well as parts of US combat aircraft shot down during the NATO air campaign of 1999. The museum is located at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla International Airport.
The portal said that the Defense Ministry is planning to move some aircraft, missiles and other exhibits to the military barracks in the Bubanj Potok area, on the outskirts of the Serbian capital. “Parts of a missile system and a helicopter, as well as various individual and loose movable assets, including a section of an Il-76 tail, the tail of an ATR72 and part of a Boeing 727 aircraft will all be moved,” it said.
According to Ex-Yu Aviation, the UK-based Cultural Innovations (CI) has been tasked with developing the museum’s future exhibition content.
Formerly known as the Yugoslav Aviation Museum, the Aeronautical Museum’s 6,000 square meters of exhibition space will be overhauled, while new facilities within the museum complex, including multipurpose hangars, will be built. The project is set to be completed by mid-May 2027, the portal said.
