Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic told the signing ceremony that the contract with the MPN Promet company is part of a new strategy to remove every diesel-powered vehicle from the city transport company (GSP) by the year 2030. He said that the city government is planning to buy another 2,500 gas-powered buses over the next five years. According to Vesic, GSP will no longer have vehicles with Euro2 and Euro3 engines once the new buses arrive early next year.

Vesic said that a tender will be called to buy new trolley buses with plans to replace all the current vehicles of that type. He said the new trolley buses have to be battery powered allowing them to move outside the existing power network.

He said that 120 trams will be bought under an inter-state agreement with Russia over the next five years.
