Belgrade heart for Petrinja in Belgrade crossed out with graffiti
Haters in Belgrade did not wait for long – a day after some citizens drew a heart and Petrinja next to it, a Croatian town devasted by a series of the earthquake, they crossed the sign of support with reminders of the 1991-1995 war. On Wednesday, Belgraders draw a heart and wrote Petrinja above it in support of people in that town hit by the earthquake.
‘Jasenovac,’ ‘Flash,’ ‘Storm,’ ‘Vukovar’ were written across the heart for Petrinja, recalling the WW II Nazi collaborators’ camp for the Serbs, Jews and disobedient Croats, the Croatian Army’s offensives to take back territories held by the rebel Serbs and the town on the Danube river devastated by the then Yugoslav Army and Serb armed volunteers, and then a symbol of often failed attempts of reconciliation between local Croats and Serbs.

On Wednesday, Belgraders rallied outside the Croatian embassy and some draw a heart on a wall in support of the people suffering due to the earthquake.
