The CEO of the Belgrade city power company said that nuclear power is the only way for Serbia to achieve energy stability and called US companies to build the country’s first nuclear plant.

Beogradske Elektrane CEO Rade Basta told Novi Magazin weekly that “nuclear energy is the only way to achieve energy efficiency and energy stability in Serbia”.

According to him, Russia has a big presence in Serbia’s energy industry but the country “as a future member of the European Union should form partnerships with the US and EU to establish energy security”. “It’s very important for the nuclear facility project to use American technology and training for our future personnel,” he added.

Basta called the US TerraPower and Exelon Corporation to come to Serbia and build the country’s first nuclear power plant. “The technologies used by those two American companies have the best prices and offer a maximum of security. They offer to build and launch a facility producing 350 or even up to 500 megawatts of power within a period of seven years with power storage capacities and safety at a level that did not exist in nuclear facilities to date,” he said.
